Shot Spotter Alert Leads To Trio's Freeport Arrest
It happened on Sunday, May 12 in Freeport, according to Nassau County Police.
Just after 2:30 a.m. that morning, authorities were alerted by Shot Spotter of a shooting that had occurred in the area of Main Street and Leonard Avenue.
Shortly after, a nearby officer noticed a grey 2008 Honda CRV with dark-tinted windows racing away from the scene of the shooting.
The car, which had three passengers, was pulled over and investigated, according to authorities.
The rear passenger, 24-year-old Jean Rodriguez, was allegedly in possession of a loaded 9mm ghost gun. He, along with the other two suspects — Dionny Quiroz, age 33, and Jostin Paez Vasquez, age 21 — was arrested.
All three men are charged with the following:
- Criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of varying degrees;
- Criminal use of a firearm;
- Criminal possession of a firearm; and
- Unlawful possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
Rodriguez was given an additional charge of reckless endangerment. He and Vasquez are scheduled to be arraigned at Hempstead’s First District Court on Monday, May 13.
Quiroz was taken to a local hospital for assessment and will be arraigned when it is medically practical.
No other injuries were reported.
