Residents find condoms in park

Playgrounds are typically thought of as a safe zone. However, on the corner of Park and Bond, neighbors are finding more than just your average trash.

“Once a week on Wednesday evenings we walk throughout the streets of Moxham and pick up litter and trash that we see on the sidewalks,” said City Council Member Charlene Stanton. “Depending on who comes to this area to pick up the litter ... they find lots of stuff. Like last night we picked up a lot of litter that was on the playground, but whenever you come to find used condoms... that’s another story.”

Stanton said she found the used condom about 5 feet from the playset.

“It's wonderful to see kids out and enjoying the weather, enjoying the playground, and having fun with other kids and that, but in my opinion, playgrounds need to be safe and they need to be clean,” she said.

Her reason for getting the word out is to bring awareness to the community so that neighborhood children can go back to playing safely at the playground,

Stanton emphasized: “Don't pick stuff up that you see on the ground at the playground. Also, maybe for the parents, before you let your children play, take a walk through the playground to see if there are any other used condoms or any other thing that could be a hazard to your child,”
