Man accused of inappropriately touching teen with ice cube at Altoona Curve game claims he did it as
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Logan Township police have released new details about what led to charges being filed against a 70-year-old Martinsburg man following an incident this summer at an Altoona Curve game.
Last week, police charged Calvin Zook with indecent assault and corruption of minors after he was accused of inappropriately touching a juvenile during a game on August 12th.
According to the affidavit, police say the victim, age 17, claimed that Zook had "cornered" her inside the kitchen area of the "Curve Burger" station where she was working.
Police say that while the teen was reportedly refilling the condiments at the burger stand, Zook allegedly came up behind her and began "rubbing" an ice cube down her buttocks and thigh.
Authorities say the victim told officers that she "froze" during the alleged assault and that Zook reportedly "thought it was funny."
Upon further investigation, police say they contacted officials with the Altoona Curve's concessions department and learned that Zook had been working that night as a member of a volunteer group.
Investigators say the teen told police that she had never met Zook prior to the alleged incident.
Police say the girl also claimed that, near the end of the game, Zook allegedly returned to the burger stand and continuously stared at her for the better part of approximately 15 minutes.
Authorities say the girl explained that most of the concessions were closed by that time and "he had no reason to be at that location."
Police say when they later questioned Zook about the accusations, he admitted to working with a "young female" whom he believed to be between 20 to 25 years old.
Authorities say Zook admitted that he did not know the girl's name and that he had never met her before.
When asked about "the ice cube incident," police say Zook admitted to touching the girl with an ice cube but claimed that it was a joke and that he did it to "make the girl smile and laugh."
Police say he then stated that his wife often tells him that "sometimes he takes his jokes too far."
Authorities say Zook also reportedly admitted that he had intentions of putting an ice cube down the back of the girl's shirt.
According to online court records, Zook had not yet been arraigned on the aforementioned charges.
