Police arrest Altoona man wanted for attempted shooting at child's birthday party

Altoona, PA (WJAC) — An Altoona man wanted for attempting to shoot another man at a child's birthday party earlier this year is now in custody, according to online court records.

Altoona police say 33-year-old Charles Mobley faces numerous charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and robbery, from the April 23 incident.

Authorities say Mobley was reportedly uninvited to the party due to a prior incident with the victim.

Police say Mobley showed up at the party anyway and got into an altercation with the victim, at which time he shouted, "you know who I am, I'm a killer," according to witnesses.

According to the criminal affidavit, Mobley is accused of "pistol whipping" the victim multiple times, before aiming the gun at the man's head and pulling the trigger three times.

Police say the gun reportedly never fired, at which time Mobley demanded the victim's cell phone and car keys.

Authorities noted that Mobley was convicted of third-degree murder in Philadelphia in 2008 and was not to be in possession of a firearm.

Police say the victim was transported to UPMC Altoona for treatment of several injuries, including a laceration to his head and wounds to his face and ears.

Mobley is being housed at the Blair County Prison, on $250,000 bail, court dockets show.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22.

Police say Mobley's ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Julie McCloskey, was also taken into custody Thursday for helping him hide from authorities.

Investigators say Mobley was found in a storage closet inside McCloskey's residence.

McCloskey was also present at the birthday party, where the original crime took place, and witnessed the assault, according to the affidavit.

She is also being housed at the Blair County Prison, on $50,000 bail, court dockets show, and her preliminary hearing is also scheduled for June 22.
