Planters nuts recalled over discovery of potentially fatal contamination
UNDATED (WKRC) - Certain Planters nuts have been recalled over the discovery of a potentially fatal contamination.
According to the FDA, Hormel Foods Sales, LLC has voluntarily recalled a limited number of two PLANTERS products:
- PLANTERS Honey Roasted Peanuts
- PLANTERS Deluxe Lightly Salty Mixed Nuts
The organization said that the products, which were produced at one of its facilities in April, were potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, the symptoms of Listeria, a potentially deadly infection, include the following:
- Fever
- Headache
- Chills
- Upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Nausea and vomiting
- Muscle aches
- Loss of balance
- Confusion
- Convulsions (muscle contractions that one cannot control)
Per the FDA, the recall impacts two retailers in five states:
- At Publix distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina
- To Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia
People are advised to throw out any affected products or return them to the store for a full refund.
