Pirates 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes earns first Gold Glove award
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Pirates third-baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes was announced Sunday as one of Major League Baseball's "Gold Glove" recipients for the 2023 season.
Hayes' achievement ended a 10-year streak of winning the Gold Glove award by St. Louis Cardinals' third-baseman Nolan Arenado.
“We're seeing the complete player,” Manager Derek Shelton said of Hayes in late September. “He's a guy that can do so many things that can impact the game in so many different ways."
The 26-year-old infielder, who battled with injury this season, signed an 8-year contract extension with the Pirates prior to last season.
Hayes became just the 20th different Pirates player to earn a Gold Glove award, and the first since former catcher Jacob Stallings won the award in 2021.
