New Details: Child Saw Shooting That Left Father Dead In Peekskill, DA Says
Peekskill resident Reginald McClure, age 39, was indicted for his role in a May 2023 shooting that killed 53-year-old Dutchess County resident Ernest Wilson of Poughkeepsie, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced on Monday, July 24.
According to the DA's Office, on the day of the shooting, Sunday, May 21, McClure allegedly confronted and chased Wilson in the area of Sherman Avenue and McKinley Street in Peekskill while shooting around six rounds at him with a 9mm firearm. Wilson was hit twice in the arm and buttock.
The shooting happened just after Wilson had dropped his child off with their mother at their Peekskill home. The child and another family member both witnessed the shooting as it happened, officials said.
Wilson was then taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday, May 24.
McClure was taken into custody the next day on Tuesday, May 25 at a Yonkers hotel following an investigation conducted by the Peekskill Police Department and the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force. At the time of his arrest, McClure was allegedly in possession of two guns, authorities said.
McClure is now charged with the following felonies:
- Second-degree murder;
- Four counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
McClure was arraigned in Westchester County Court on Tuesday, July 18, and remanded, DA officials said.
