Artaria is the first region you encounter in Metroid Dread, and it’s the one you’ll be backtracking to the most. The game will want you to progress to Catarsis as fast as possible, but it won’t provide many clues as to how. This guide will help you make your way through Artaria and reach its regional boss, Corpius.

Defeat the Central Unit and obtain the Spider Magnet

After receiving the Charge Beam you’ll want to head back to the second E.M.M.I. zone. A cutscene will play showing the Central Unit activating, and that means you can now trigger its boss fight. Make your way through the E.M.M.I. zone while trending towards the right and you’ll eventually encounter the Charge Beam door centered in the image above. Blast through it and head up the platform and you’ll encounter the Central Unit. Dodge its Rinka projectiles and energy bullets while blasting it with missiles or charged shots. Within a couple of minutes, the Central Unit should die and provide you with the Omega Blaster. A tutorial for its use will display, and you will now be able to defeat the E.M.M.I. outside.

Defeat the E.M.M.I. and retrieve the Spider Magnet

Once the E.M.M.I. has been destroyed Samus will acquire the Spider Magnet. This power-up allows you to climb magnetic surfaces, indicated by the blue walls on the map. Use your new ability to travel up the corridor and exit Artaria’s second E.M.M.I. zone. Once at the top of the corridor, travel towards your right until you encounter a water-filled cave. You should end up positioned at the same location as the map above.

Metroid-Dread-Artaria-Corpius-Door

If you encounter the pictured door, you know you are on the right path. This doorway will lead you to the boss of the Artaria region, Corpius. Once you cross this entryway there’s no return unless you die, so make sure you’re stocked on health and ammo before entering. Corpius acts as the first true boss fight of the game, and he’s sure to take all of your ammunition before going down. Defeating Corpius will grant you the Phantom Cloak, and your new ability will allow you to progress through the sensor doors that had previously blocked your entry to Catarsis.

That’s all you need to know to complete Artaria. If you’re still stumped after defeating Corpius, you can find other guides by clicking here, including tutorials on how to defeat Corpius and where to travel after retrieving the Phantom Cloak.

Metroid Dread is available now on the Nintendo Switch, purchasable in-store or through your Switch’s eShop.
