Ligonier Valley football fondly remembers missing teen
LIGONIER -- As the search for a missing teen in Somerset County continues, those close to him are forced to reflect upon better times.
Joey Dubics was a standout linebacker and running back for the Ligonier Valley Rams football team, and a mainstay within the program.
He helped guide the Rams to back to back district 6 class 2a titles, back to back Appalachian bowl victories, and was team captain.
An all-conference and all-district player on the field, Dubics is described as an even better person off of it.
Dubics was lase seen paddle boarding in the Quemahoning Reservoir monday, when he jumped into the water to retrieve his hat and sunglasses, and never resurfaced.
WPXI in Pittsburgh confirmed the missing teen in the reservoir was indeed Dubics, and the search has yet to yield any results.
WJAC reached out to his former coach Roger Beitel, and former Athletic Director and assistant coach Corey Turcheck, who both echoed the incredible person that Dubics was in all aspects of his young life.
Dubics was 18 years old and just finished up his senior year at Ligonier Valley High School.
He was planning on attending I.U.P. in the fall, majoring in criminal justice, and pursuing a career as a law-enforcement officer.
