Johnstown Redevelopment Authority continues demolition of blighted properties
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The Johnstown Redevelopment Authority celebrated the demolition of another blighted property Thursday.
The residential building, located at 1127 Ridge Avenue, s one of 19 properties being turned into greenspaces thanks to state funding secured by Senator Wayne Langerholc.
Sen. Langerholc says it's important to get rid of the buildings, not only for safety, but to make space available for parks and playgrounds.
Executive director Melissa Komar says state and federal money has helped reduce blight a lot faster.
Officials say when they were using only city budget funding, they were only able to demolish ten structures a year.
Now, the redevelopment authority can demolish ten structures in two weeks.
