'Happy Gilmore' swings back onto the screen with a Netflix ordered sequel

UNDATED (WKRC) - Netflix officially announced the production of the long-awaited sequel to the beloved comedy.

Back in March of 2024, Christopher McDonald accidentally leaked that Adam Sandler had shown him a first draft of the script of a sequel to "Happy Gilmore", but information was largely scarce. In April, Sandler teased the project a bit more in interviews, but still stopped short of confirming any theories. Some time later, Drew Barrymore received word during the taping of her talk show that a sequel was indeed in the works, which she eagerly shared with her audience.

During its upfront presentation to advertisers, Netflix officially announced "Happy Gilmore 2" with Sandler back in the saddle for the titular enraged golfer. Netflix did not tease any more details about the film, including the director or plot.

Sandler has a $250 million deal with Netflix and has created eight movies for the service already, including "Sandy Wexler", "The Ridiculous Six", and even stand-up specials like "100% Fresh".
