Former Penn State golfer qualifies for U.S. Open at Oakmont

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Former Penn State golfer T.J. Howe will be packing his bags for Pittsburgh.

The 2010 graduate qualified for the U.S. Open on Monday during sectional qualifying.

Howe, from Osceola Township in Tioga County, native shot a seven-under par 137 to place second at the Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Washington.

He earned one of three spots among the 55 competitors at Royal Oaks for the 116th U.S. Open, to be held June 16-19 at Oakmont Country Club in suburban Pittsburgh.

Three other current or former Nittany Lions just missed qualifying on Monday.
