No one injured in Northern Cambria house fire, home deemed a total loss

Publish date: 2024-06-05

UPDATE:

A Cambria County home is a total loss after a house fire Sunday morning in Susquehanna Township.

Hope Fire Company First Assistant Chief Pete Barczak says crews first responded to the home on Sheredy Drive in Susquehanna Township early Sunday morning.

He says when they arrived, they found a small fire in the basement wall on the right side of the home.

Hours later, crews were called back to the address.

“The entire house was ventilated. The entire house was checked. A few hours later, we were called back for a fully involved fire. Now it is the left side of the area from the stairway is what was fully engulfed. At that point, there was nothing to save,” said Barczak.

Hope Fire Company was assisted by Hastings and Colver volunteer fire companies.

Colver assisted as a rapid intervention team.

“When we respond to structure fires, we bring in a RIT team, rapid intervention, in case one of the firemen falls through a floor or gets trapped,” said Barczak.

Barczak says it took about 45 minutes to contain the fire. He says the house is a total loss.

One factor crews were worried about while working to contain the fire was their water supply.

“When you have all these trucks that are all pumping water, you are hooked into different hydrants, but they are all hooked up to the same system. So we had to be able to control the water we had. But we had enough water to handle the situation,” said Barczak.
