Certification of Centre Co. election results on hold due to legal challenge of ballots
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — The final primary election results in Centre County are now on hold due to a court suit being filed over the status of close to 100 mail-in ballots.
The county's board of elections met Tuesday, hoping to approve final certification of the primary election from April 23rd, but as we reported earlier, a challenge over the dates, or lack of them, on over 90 mail-in ballots has now led to a civil suit filed in Centre County court.
The election board initially approved counting the mail-in ballots, while acknowledging possible errors with the dates.
But the challenge comes from those who say state and federal court decisions are very clear on the ballots’ date requirements, and that the ballots in question don’t follow those requirements and therefore should be tossed out.
At the election board meeting, it was announced final approval for the primary election results in Centre County are on hold due to the new court suit.
“That has been filed over in the court of common pleas regarding the election results, so because of that filing, we’ve been advised by our solicitor that we can’t move forward with certification.”
There is no word on how soon a ruling may be made on the court suit against the election board.
