The Altoona Curve have reportedly received an invitation to be part of the MLB's newest player development system, according to a release, and would remain the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

It was first reported nearly one year ago that Major League Baseball had a new proposal in the works that would eliminate 40 minor league teams and would restructure the league based upon geography.

The Altoona Curve were among several Pennsylvania teams that were in jeopardy of being eliminated.

According to an announcement from the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Curve have NOT been eliminated under the new structure and the Pirates have also extended invitations to the Indianapolis Indians, Greensboro Grasshoppers and the Bradenton Marauders.

The new player development licenses are expected to be sent to all 120 teams in the coming weeks.
